Part of my almost overdue ICFF submission. Ted put it well, I am trying to give contemporary furniture market a “sustainable and salvaged material” wake up call. Make classic design truly “Design Within Reach”…plus all the good feelings that come with building something that is truly beautiful + usable + smart.

I attempt to master the corpus callossum daily…so far, so good. No splitting headaches either.

Well, here is my life described on post it notes. I’m not sure I would describe myself with these choice events again, but it definitely makes one realize those things that are important enough to write on a post-it.

*Please forgive my grammar…I’m definitely not the comparative literature person in the Davis family.

design rant :: single service coffee pods

Green Mountain Coffee Pods

Green Mountain Coffee is my enemy of the day. I don’t hate coffee I just hate what it has become. I am not a coffee snob nor do I look down upon the occasional Starbucks Carmel Frap, but these coffee pods are ridiculous. Why? Looking at it from a packaging perspective you get ONE drink for how much waste? Not to mention the combination of foil and plastic makes this virtually unrecyclable (is that a word?). Oh yes, and if you are a big coffee drinker and have 3 - 17 cups a day, guess what?? You have successfully killed a baby penguin BY YOURSELF! Morgan Freeman is unhappy and mommy penuin will never see baby again! Okay, drastic maybe but wouldn’t a coffee pot FULL of coffee be better, quicker, less mess, less throw away in the long run? I see a need for a redesign for those people too lazy to load their own little coffee cup. Anybody?

One last thing…this coffee mug from Highwave caught my eye. Great form that does something that all coffee shoppes attempt to do with those cheap coffee cup huggers…prevention of the burnt hands (or crotch).

Carbon Motors :: E7 Rendering

I have been working on the interior design of the Carbon Motors police car for some time now. my focus has been on ergonomically outfitting the interactions inside the vehicle (touchscreen computer, steering wheel, gear shift, instrument cluster, heads up display, etc.) so that 95% percent of police officers can effectively access all controls. Here a link to their concept car that will soon implement the changes that my lab at GTRI has suggested.
