Still struggling to explain what an industrial designer does? Whitey Hess wrote a great article summing up the “10 Most Common Misconceptions about User Experience Design.”
My job is to make things easier to use FIRST and don’t worry, we’ll talk about pretty-fying it too.
Back in high school a great friend of mine, Molly Mahoney, choreographed some rag tag group of students in one of the best “musicals” from my childhood….Captain E.O. Dude (dudette), we rocked it! For a select few of us Villa Park High School students, our parents gave us year passes to Disneyland (day care) and this was probably one of my favorite attractions. After the 3D show (YouTube#2 - YouTube#1) people would exit the theatre and attempt to throw down some MJ like moves and screams. Some were good, some had no rhythm…but everyone was smiling. I love these memories.
Today, Michael Jackson passed (not that you didn’t know) and despite his rocky ending he is still my “King of Pop” and the theme song to being BAD.

Riding a bike and sneezing 37 times in one city block is probably worse than drunk driving. This gutter photo exposes my sneeky enemy…that yellow stuff is POLLEN. Yippee for pretty flowers and dog woods, boo for snot bubbles and blurry vision.
BTW….our current pollen count in Atlanta is 733. The extremely high color coded chart ends with red and the number 120+. We are 613 above extremely high which makes me wonder…

Food for interface design thought! Internet Explorer started a trend with the round IE icon globe thing and I think Apple is starting another one, rounded squares (think iPhone / iPod Touch). It is interesting to see and semi-understand this trend’s evolution. Most of my research participants disliked rounded buttons / icons on touchscreens YET liked round icons on computers…hmmm
